Tony Davies,
A self-taught amateur photographer living in Llandudno. North Wales, UK. I was born in Newport, South Wales, and qualified as an electrician.
Work allowed me to become an expatriate for twenty out of the following forty-three years.
Working in places like Saudi Arabia and Iraq during the nineteen seventies and eighties made it difficult to pursue photography; as a result my hobby nearly came to an end. But in 2011, while working in Iraq for the second time, I bought my first DSLR; a Nikon D7000. This was soon followed by a D800, a D810, a Z6 and now a Z9 closely followed by a Z8.
Many hours of my spare time have been spent taking photographs and studying the various techniques required to improve my skills.
Retiring from work in 2015 I joined Conwy Camera Club and soon started entering club competitions, exhibitions and salons.
I gained my Licentiate of The Royal Photographic Society in November 2015 my CPAGB in April 2017, my AWPF in 2018 and my GPU Aphrodite in 2019. I have now progressed and have my GPU Hermes distinction.
Many of my photographs have been accepted into salons and exhibitions, both within the UK and overseas. I continue to enjoy and immerse myself in photography. In 2018 I was appointed as the Global Photographic Union (GPU) UK Representative and now proud to sit on the Governing Board of GPU.
I recently became the North Wales Photographic Association (NWPA) delegate to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) executive committee.
I believe that patience is one of the most important characteristics that help to make a good photographer.
